Something interesting might be coming today…..

All the Apple developer sites have that post-it note saying "We’ll be back soon"

I’m just glad they’re finally fixing all this iCloud stuff that’s hard to explain to people.

"Why do my notes sync to email? Why are my to-dos in iCal?"

messages app beta is available to anyone

thanks

I got an invite to the mountain lion seed program

not sure if I want to do it this time, lion was a pain.

Fuck the Gatekeeper is going to make things a pain.

Sucks that they’re going so iOS with it. Give it a couple years and the ONLY place you will be able to get software is from the App Store. Bye bye disk utilities, hacks, data recovery, apps that work across multiple applications (as with the new sandboxing requirement one app cannot manipulate data for another app), and more.

They’re killing more and more small developers. I bet the guy that makes Growl shit himself today when he saw it. The notifications are just like Growl and now they’ll be included in the OS so there goes his software sales. Apple has always let others come up with good software ideas, then instead of offering to buy the product and incorporate it into their product, they just develop the same thing themselves and kill the developers that worked hard to come up with a good product and that make OS X have good application options.

how?

A. you can set thing to how they currently are
B. the default option just means that if a dev starts submitting malware, they get their certificate pulled.
C. you have to set it to app store only, which is good for if you want to lock it down.

yeah, in the long run apple wants to default (and possibly only) allow for locking it to the app store, but that doesn’t mean they will.

That’s what they say. Soon it will change and developers will have to pay a yearly fee for certificates. That’s how they’ve done shit in the past. Use to be the bootable CD/DVD kit was free. Then they started charging $999 a year per product you wanted to offer on a bootable CD/DVD. Now they don’t even offer it anymore because Lion isn’t available on a DVD so why do they care. Developers can’t do it themselves since they can’t include any Apple property on their DVDs without permission. So developers are left having to ask customers to use products like DasBoot to make their own boot devices. That becomes hard because most of these people aren’t smart enough to figure it out on their own so good luck coaching them over the phone or through email. It also means developers are losing money on the extra couple bucks they can charge someone to order a boot CD/DVD over that of the download version.

They always find a way to screw developers. Now they’re pushing more and more to get everyone to use the App Store. Because it means they get paid every time anyone else does.

Right now I can develop software for Mac at no cost to me. With 10.8 you have to become a member of the developer program to get the certificates issued. The more control that Apple exerts over their developers and users, the more you’ll see these developers go to other platforms.

With 10.8, you’ll have to allow unsigned applications to run redsn0w to jailbreak as there Apple isn’t going to let that kinda thing be approved. Come OS XI, they’ll likely push for even more control and we will see a point when ONLY App Store applications are allowed to run on Macs. I can’t wait to have to jailbreak my fucking laptop.

you sound like an old man… back in my day, you could release unsigned buggy shitty UI’ed software and everyone was happy…

dasboot? really? why would you be telling an average customer to be using that in the first place?

jumping platforms? screwing developers? dude, apple’s made millionaires out of no bodies because of the ios app store… being a small developer right now is like a gold mine of job options… now is a perfect time to be a developer… hell, between ios and andriod, tons of people have jobs…

who gives a fuck. If Apple can give me all this functionality out of the box without the need of having to install third party shit, I’m all for it.

Apple is cheating.

We already had Panther. A "Mountain Lion" is a different name for the exact same species.

also had puma so this would be the 3rd name of the same cat… just need cougar to finish the field out

I wonder what they will do when they are going to do after 10.9? Keep it on 10 (10.10, 10.11, etc.) or go to OS XI?

I’m afraid one of these days you’re going to have to be a Registered Developer (I am anyway) or jailbreak your Mac to actually use it like a computer, not just the apple store shit.
