im working at a small composite lab and wanting to see if there is demand in carbon fiber parts that the market is lacking. what would you guys want to have that isnt made or is too expensive? last time i posted i heard iphone cases, bumper canards, vehicle specific interior pieces, etc. i know you guys are on other vehicle-specific websites give me your ideas, PM or post here
thanks these are the kind of responses im looking for, both would be very easy! i know you guys are on other car forums and have an interest in even a small batch of car parts (scoop for WRX for example or interior pieces, valve covers, or any obscure thing that nobody else is making), id love to hear your input
car parts can be purely cosmetic (scoop for example) or structural things (we have an autoclave and vacuum bagging but i dont want anything that could even have a chance of possibly failing and hurting someone like a control arm or something… liability!)
A coffee/soup/whatever thermos with carbon fiber skin would be cool. I like the carbon fiber pen idea also.
OH, I’m not sure how well this would work, but carbon fiber guitar picks might be kind of cool. They would have to be ridged or something to give them enough grip not to fly out of sweaty fingers. I would definitely buy a set to try out.

all of those seem to be easy and cheap, keep the responses up, we can mock something up if there are at least a few people interested.. anybody have relatively bigger things? would people want iphone vs blackberry case? would u want some way of clipping it onto someting or just a protective sleeve for it? thanks for everyones input, just trying to get a feel for what kinds of stuff there is a demand for (vs purely "yeah that would look cool but i wouldnt buy it" stuff)
Phone covers in general is a great idea for CF. I actually tossed the idea around of having a CF cover custom made for my current phone but figured it’d cost a pretty penny to have it done. You could make CF covers for a range of popular phones (mainly PDA phones) and undoubtedly get a large customer response for something like that.
Bicycle parts. CF handle bars, seats, seat posts. All of these have a range of different types and although some of this is already being done on a large scale, the popularity of building and upgrading ones bike would bring in good business.
CF wallet, the most prominent faces of the wallet could be CF while the bending edges could be a durable leather.

what kind of phone do you have? this was the thing that got the biggest interest on here a while back. it would probably be cheaper than you think. as far as bike parts, id just be concerned about liability. easton can test and test and test and break a hundred handlebars but a small production run would not have that amount of R+D (plus they have good lawyers if someone were to plant their face into the stem)
i know some honda guys were getting into carbonfiber "roof skins" that fit under the plastic trim and adhered to the roof.. im trying to figure out what people want in terms of a "group buy" type thing so they get exactly what they want and i dont waste my time making random stuff and seeing if people want it

i know a little about guitar picks… it could have any of the characteristics of your typical guitar pic, even the more flexible ones

hmmm wouldnt be too hard and would use hardly any material.. maybe we’ll try to make one and see how it goes
