Mac Mini as an HTPC?

Anyone use one as an HTPC? There have been a couple times where I almost bought the current Mac Mini but I’ve decided to hold out for the refresh.

If you are using one, how is it? Does it handle 1080p MKVs seemlessly? Any issues at all?

In for later. Been lusting after a Mini for HTPC duty for a while now. Talked my neighbor into it, but haven’t had time to go check out his setup. I’m really unsure if a refresh is going to happen given how unusual the mini’s refresh schedule has been.

I have an old one that I use as a media center and seedbox and it’s great. Pretty low specs I think, 1.66GHz C1D with ~80GB HD and 2GB of ram.

I have not played 1080p content though because my TV only supports up to 720p but that is flawless, so someone else will have to chime in there. That being said if mine does 720p without hickups then I can’t imagine that the current ones would even blink at 1080p. Look in to Plex, it’s a port of XBMC for Macs and is really incredible and looks great.

i have a mac mini and mkv’s play great. no lag or frame refresh distortions or anything. it’s pretty cool to have. beats messing with a hacked ps3 to watch blurays 😛

.

My MBP 13" plays 1080p movies fine. The Mac mini shouldn’t have any problems since it has the same specs.

I’m using a MacMini (the one before the "new" version) that has no issues with 1080p.

I use Plex and have 6TB of disk space via FW. Pretty awesome setup.

Then you can also hookup the Logitech Harmony 1 remote to it, then plus BT KB/Mouse and controllers, you can game from within plex to launch SNES9x or whatever emu you want.
