Mac Pro 2.8Ghz 8-Core Desktop computer
(RAM: 2GB (default), Disk Size: 320GB (default), Enclosure Condition: A-Grade (add $50))
Grand Total: $1,800.00 USD
So that’s 2 quad core Harpertown processors
Nothin’?
This would be to replace a quite unexpectedly blowed up Mac1,1 dual two core 2.66ghz.
Upgrade the ram and it should be a pretty alright machine. What version of OS X is it running on? 10.6.8? If you don’t need the 8 cores though, I would just buy a new 27 inch iMac with the i5(or an i7 if you think you need it) quad core. It’s going to have better graphical performance (radeon HD6970M), more ram(4GB, upgradable to 16GB), one of the best displays, Lion, 1TB of HD space(Upgradable, too), and a warranty. Apple website lists it at 1,999 USD. Therefore, yes, the mac pro is an alright deal. If I were going to drop 2k on an Apple again though, I would get the iMac. It’s the better deal. I’m running a late 2009 27 inch, and it can easily handle photoshop, final cut pro, and the pretty graphically heavy games that I throw at it. The new would be more than adequate for my industrial use, so it would handle the same work load or less(depending on what you need it for). Your choice though.
