10.6.5 is out…

I just did a software update a few hours ago and it didn’t any updates.

Will download now I guess.

I hope it fixes my wifi issues. Haven’t seen any new problems yet. I just came out of sleep mode and it seemed to hunt for my wifi connection a little longer.

I installed it on my MacBook Pro a few hours ago, no problems yet.

I’ll probably wait until tomorrow to install it on the Mac Pro.

No problems on my work 15" Uni MBP. Will upgrade the personal 17" Uni MBP tonight.

Any Mathematica users?

I’m trying to define my own version of the Map function in Mathematica for the purpose of taking a list and taking the last item of each sublist and outputting its last value.

The ideal output from a list such as {{1,2,3},{4,5,6},{7,8,9}} would be {{3},{6},{9}}.

This is what I have so far:

In[255]:= list = {{1, 2, 3}, {4, 5, 6}, {7, 8, 9}};
foo[x_] := Take[Last[x], -1]
Table[foo[i], {i, list}]

During evaluation of In[255]:= Take::normal: Nonatomic expression expected at position 1 in Take[3,-1]. >>

During evaluation of In[255]:= Take::normal: Nonatomic expression expected at position 1 in Take[6,-1]. >>

During evaluation of In[255]:= Take::normal: Nonatomic expression expected at position 1 in Take[9,-1]. >>

During evaluation of In[255]:= General::stop: Further output of Take::normal will be suppressed during this calculation. >>

Out[257]= {Take[3, -1], Take[6, -1], Take[9, -1]}

I think I’m close but when the function gets to the first two lists, it goes bonkers.

Recently getting a BSOD

I’m running Windows 7 64 bit, and I’ve recently been getting a BSOD. I have no idea what the problem is. The error screens don’t give very much information. How should I go about identifying the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Should have an error code, at the very least. You can also check the Event log for more information.

I have the .dmp files but I’m not exactly sure how I should be using them. lol

If you haven’t seen the BSOD properly because the computer restarted, you can disable the automatic restart. You’ll be able to see the error properly there, and from there, google it.

what do you do to prevent your parents from constant malware infections?

apparently microsoft security essentials is not enough

it found the issue after the fact, but the malware had messed up the registry bad enough to not allow any updates (windows and MSE), despite allowing you to go online

i rolled back to the latest image and installed malwarebytes, with the active protection module enabled

they don’t get admin rights
use k9 to block malicious sites.
mse/avast has worked for me.

Remove Internet Explorer from your start menu, desktop, ect…

Time Machine Backup

I just started using the Time Machine backup feature. I have a question. I am using a 1TB external drive for this. I was hoping that Time Machine would have more advanced options than what I’m seeing so far. So it’s gonna keep making backups until it runs out of space and starts deleting the oldest one? 1TB is a hell of a lot of space to do this with. I was hoping it would only eat up a small percentage of that and allow me to use the rest of the drive for whatever I wanted to. My first backup was only 13GB.

Computer won’t start, green light on motherboard is on when connected

I changed the power supply but still no luck
Then I tried switching up the power button connectors but still no luck

What gives?

Green light means the board has power but the CPU might be dead.

Board may be getting power, but fried. Light would still be on. Make sure you didn’t mess something up with the power jumpers on the board.

I have very rarely seen a dead CPU. In fact, Ive never had a CPU die on me.

It’s probably the motherboard, since the CPU is original Intel

Internet/modem/router issue?

This is an ongoing issue that has picked up lately with my increase in Netflix activity.

Internet drops multiple times a day, requiring a router and modem reset for internet to be restored. I’ve had the cable co come out, signals have tested fine, all wiring checks out. I have replaced the modem, it is a general Cisco cable modem. Router is a Belkin wireless-n, which i’ve never experienced any problems with so I have not replaced it.

Connected directly to the modem, I pull down 15-16mbps but wirelessly connected through the modem I get 21-23. I know this is literally impossible. Does this indicate an issue with the router or something otherwise in the system?
